22 UK Logos Redesigned in 2011 – A Yearly Collection!

It is often said that redesigning an already existing identity is more difficult than designing one from scratch. Reason being that a new identity has no prior exposure to the target audience and there is less chance of a failure. But while redesigning logos, there is more element of risk involved as the loyalty and likeability of customers towards the existing identity is at stake.

We have examples of many famous brands that failed to effectively redesign their logo design and failed miserably in front of their devoted customers. Last year, GAP logo redesign faced a similar fate as they had to roll back their newly introduced identity after a public outcry. Hence, it is extremely important to conduct a pilot-test before revamping your logo or brand identity.

Like every year, 2011 also witnessed a number of corporate entities that went for a change/adjustment in their identities by adopting redesigned logos. Today, I have collected and assembled 22 logo redesigns that took place this year, which include 11 UK brands and 11 non-UK brands.

Nice collection. I personally do not like bitmaped logos, like the 11th. They are not easily applicable. Even the 17th one could be hard to be processed or rastered due a lot of vector layers to simulate the smooth gradient. Bridgestone redesign is a good turning-it-readable case.

I have to say that in most cases I prefer the old logo design. Thank you for putting it all together. Great post

I like most of these, with just a couple of exceptions. I particularly like Tetley’s, Channel 5, Thwaites and Little Chef (my favourite). Still all recognisable but nicely refreshed. Thanks for the list.
