The mystery behind Company Logos – 10 revelations!!

Jan 12, 2010 | Categories: Company Logos, Logo Design | Written By: Sam Anderson

Logo designs may appear simple and plain but ever wondered why companies invest so heavily to get a professional company logo? It’s because a logo design is one of the most valuable asset of any corporation. Long gone are the days when companies simply used their name as a logo. Nowadays companies demand innovative and novel ways of portraying their company name.  Here enters the need for creative logo designs. But with the passage of time the task for corporate logo designing has become increasingly competitive. Companies are nowadays employing the logo design for showing their rationale for existence.

I was amazed when I found out that a simple logo design like FedEx carried a hidden meaning between its letters“E” and “X”. The negative space between the 2 letters create an arrow which signifies forward movement. Henceforth, I vowed to uncover all such company logos that have a hidden meaning embedded in them.

So far I’ve uncovered these company logos with their well crafted meanings:

1 ) Audi:

The four rings, which make up the Audi logo, represent the four companies that were part of the Auto-Union Consortium in 1932. They were DKW, Horch, Wanderer and Audi.

2 ) Yoga Australia Logo:

At first glance the logo may look like a simple picture of a young girl doing her yoga exercise but if you watch it carefully the body posture is creating the Australia Map.

3 ) Toyota:

As you can see the letters T, O, Y, O, T, A, are embedded within the emblem of the company. This was a pure work of class by the logo designer to incorporate the company name in such a compact logo.

4 ) 5.10 Logo:

Five-Ten is a famous family-owned company dedicated to make the best outdoor sports footwear available. When seen in upside position the logo shows a very clever blend of the numeric’s of 5 and10.

5 ) Via Rail Canada:

Notice carefully…the VIA rail Canada logo makes two train tracks with the letters”V” and the “A”. The alphabet “I” is the division between the two. A simply brilliant logo.

6 ) Mercedes-Benz:

The star in three corners represents the Mercedes-Benz dominance on land, sea and air

7 ) SHELTER:

This is a British company for the homeless and the badly housed people. Notice the way they have used the letter “h” to denote a house in their company logo. Simply brilliant.

8 ) Hope For Children Initiative:

For the first glance the logo shows “Africa’s Map” but with a penetrating look you will see the outlined face of a child and a protective elderly figure. In fact I noticed the faces first and then saw the map…strange?

9 ) Volkswagen:

Many of you might have driven or even own a Volkswagen but ever wondered what the emblem symbolizes? The simple logo icon contains the letters V and W: “volks” means “people” and “wagen” means “car”

10 ) NorthWest Airline Old Logo:

The logo reflected a clever way of splitting the alphabets, N and W (north west) along with a location pointed to by the red triangle in the upper left corner. The redesign lost the charm of the original

Although I’ve eaten tons of toblerone bars: P but never even bothered to observe its company logo. Recently, I learned that Toblerone logo design claims to have a secret message but I would like you all to guess. Have a close look and tell if you see something unique within the logo.

I also invite you all to share any new company logos with hidden meanings :)
