As if the infamous Olympics 2012 logo didn’t have its fair share of logo design controversies, it has caught up in yet another storm. Recently, Iran threatened to boycott from the Olympics 2012 on the pretext that the logo design spells out the word “Zion”. Quite funny…I thought it spelt “2012”.

| London 2012 Olympics logo, designed by famous logo designer Wolff Olins, is not new to controversies. A Jagged depiction of the year 2012, the logo design has been allegedly resembled to many things. Some people related it to a swastika, while others construed a profane action in it. Now the Iranian government alleges a hidden pro-Israeli conspiracy by concealing the word “Zion”, a biblical term for Jerusalem. Well…so much for hidden logos. |

| The National Olympic Committee of Iran has sent a letter to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) objecting to the 2012 London Olympics logo. The agency has also called for a redesign while the current logo cost £400,000. |

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has shown its dismay over the allegations, saying they are surprised over the allegations after four years of the unveiling of the logo design.

Honestly speaking, I tried all possible angles but couldn’t find the word “Zion” within the 2012 Olympics Logo. Don’t you think it is a baseless allegation altogether because if this word “Zion” was deliberately interpreted in the logo, then Iran has taken long enough time of 4 years to see it…get a life guys.

the sad and pathetic truth of it is that I can make the word ‘iran’ look like Zion too. I can make an even better job of making the word ‘iron’ look like Zion. Obviously The Iron is the nickname of Scunthorpe United FC, so they must be in on the conspiracy???
The only thing I can’t do is make Iran look credible.

I am Iranian, of course everybody can see the word Zion in the logo.
If the Olympic games was in Iran, the logo would have political and religion symbols surely.

Zion or not, it’s a really shit piece of design. Do you know how many designers dream about a project like this? It insults the hard-working and educated members of the design community. That it was produced by those charged with a political agenda (Zionists? Nazis? – it’s also been described as “swastika-esque”) does not surprise me, because design integrity and aesthetic considerations were clearly not involved in the process. As for the design/research fee, of course it is pricey, but could have been justified by a brilliant design for extensive commercial and Olympic agency applications. Instead, it will be a tacky form of visual pollution tainting every medium in which it resides.

I would discard the whole thing but since the logo from the past Olympics spelled zion as well makes me doubt that this years logo is a pure coincidence. Second why would the number 1 have a dot on top? It doesn’t make sense

Please spend more money on our schools and hospitals than this 400k piece of crap.
I could have done a better job costing £29 from Internet logo design and it would have looked much better.

Yes it is the Zion word, not Simpson, not Nazi Symbols and how you saw pianist?!! Its the zion word and there is no doubt about that. There is a dot for “i”. and they also put the the “i” under “z” in order to correct the “zoin” to the “zion”.
