History of 20 EPL Club Logos of 2010 |

The Barclay’s Premier League Season 2009-10 is off and running. The race to the title is still wide open. The contention for the Champions League spot is at the halfway stage as the clubs battle their way for a top four finish. While the title cannot be decided till the final day saga, I decided to collect the logo designs of all the 20 teams playing in the 2010 English Premier League season.
For those of you who are football fanatics like myself, come and learn how your favorite football team logo designs have evolved. |

1. Arsenal F.C. Logo History:Arsenal Football Club (formerly Royal Arsenal) adopted its first logo in 1888. Since then it has undergone a massive logo redesign. Witness the transformation of Arsenal logo design below: |

2. Aston Villa F.C. Logo Design History:The "Continental" strip of Aston Villa was introduced in 1956. After this, the club logo design emerged for the first time on Villa Kits, featuring the conventional Scottish lion raging that had first appeared in 1878. Since then Villa logo design has transformed as follows: |

3. Birmingham City F.C. Logo Design History:Birmingham City F.C was established in 1875. The City of Birmingham Coat of Arms logo design was first used by the club in 1905. The next logo adopted by the club was in the 1970’s when the intertwined letters ‘BCFC’ were used. The most well-known logo of Birmingham City Football Club is the current ‘Globe’ logo design adopted in 1972. |

4. Blackburn Rovers F.C. Logo History:Blackburn Rovers’ first logo was added to the team’s shirts in the FA Cup Final in 1960. Since then it has changed in 1974 and 1989. |

5. Bolton Wanderers F.C. Logo History:Bolton adopted a simplified version of Bolton’s coat of arms in 1921 as their first logo. Following is the series of changes in logo that took place from 1921 till 2001. |

6. Burnley F.C. Logo History:Burnley’s first Royal Logo surfaced in 1887. The current logo was designed in 1975. To commemorate the 50th anniversary of their last League Championship win, the club adopted the 1960s logo for their first ever season in the Premier League. |

7. Chelsea F.C. Logo History:Chelsea’s official logo has changed five times in their century old prolific history. Following is a showcase of the transformation from 1905-2005. |

8. Everton F.C. Logo History:Everton FC was established in 1878. In 1938 the ‘The Beacon’ or ‘The Tower’ logo was first used at Goodison Park. The intermingled ‘EFC’ design was adopted in 1922. However, no badge was adopted until 1973. The shield logo design with the latin text was first used on kits in 1980. |

9. Fulham F.C. Logo History:Fulham FC has made numeral amounts of modifications to its logo over the years. The first logo was introduced in 1931 with a big black image of Craven Cottage on it. A second logo bearing London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham was used in 1947. The current Fulham FC logo was launched in May 2001 showing the club’s two core colors (white and black) with the letters ‘FFC’. |

10. Hull City F.C. Logo History:The first logo of Hull City F.C. portrayed a tiger’s head in a yellow-shade background, which was used from 1945-1955. The logo was altered as shown below: |

11. Liverpool F.C. Logo:The Liverpool F.C. logo has been altered on several occasions. Not only did the club logo vary on the club kit but often other logos appeared occasionally after cup success or for club merchandising. Following you will see a range of logos used by Liverpool F.C for different purposes. |

12. Manchester City F.C. Logo:Manchester City F.C introduced its first logo in 1970. The present club logo was adopted in 1997, as the previous logo could not be registered as a trademark. The logo is based on the arms of the city of Manchester, and has a shield ahead of a golden eagle. The shield depicts a ship in its upper half showing the Manchester Ship Canal, and three diagonal stripes in the lower half, for the city’s three rivers. The bottom of the badge shows the motto Superbia in Proelio, which means Pride in Battle in Latin. On top are three stars, which are only ornamental. |

13. Manchester United F.C. Logo:The Champions’ logo has been changed on a few occasions, but the pattern continued to be similar. The devil on the club badge originates from the club’s nickname "The Red Devils". In 1998, the logo was again redesigned eliminating the words "Football Club”. |

14. Portsmouth F.C. Logo:The new Pompey logo, released in May 2008, contains a gold star with eight sides and crescent on a blue shield. Following are the various logos adopted by Portsmouth F.C. : |

15. Stock City F.C. Logo:STOKE City, since their inception in 1863, has been considered the second-oldest Football League club. Nicknamed “The Potters”, Stoke City has undergone foolowing changes in their logo design: |

16. Sunderland F.C. Logo:Released in 1997, the present logo of Sunderland F.C. is divided into four parts. Following are the different logos used by Sunderland F.C. |

18. West Ham United F.C. Logo:The original logo of “The Hammers” was a crossed pair of rivet hammers. A castle was added to the logo and symbolizes a famous local building, Green Street House. The logo was redesigned by London design agency Springett Associates in the late 1990s. |

19. Wigan Athletic F.C. Logo:The present logo of Wigan Athletic FC is actually the Arms of the Metropolitan Borough of Wigan granted in 1974 after the creation of the Metropolitan Borough. The new design features two of the aspects from the original Arms used by the club as its logo – a Crown and a ’Wiggin Tree’. The full club name is displayed in a ring. Here are the previous and current logos used by Wigan. |

20. Wolverhampton Wanderers F.C. Logo:Before 1960, Wolves used the City Crest. But in the late 1960’s, Wolves launched their own club logo comprising of a single leaping wolf, which later developed into three leaping wolves in the 1970s. In 1979, Wolves changed to the now famous wolf-head badge. |
