|
The official logo design for the UEFA championship 2012 was unveiled to the world on 14 December 2009 by UEFA President Michel Platini. He revealed the eye-catching bloom logo and the slogan ‘Creating History Together’ at a ceremony in Kyiv’s Mykhailivska Square. Ukraine President Viktor Yushchenko likes it, Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko admires it and Mr.Platini loves it…but do you agree with them? Before you share your opinion, let’s have a look at the features of this new identity.

The UEFA EURO 2012™ logo design:Designed by Portuguese group Brandia Central, the new company logo takes its visual identity from Wycinanki, the traditional art of paper cutting practiced in Poland and rural areas of Ukraine. The logo has a flower that represents both the host nations and a ball in the center symbolizing the emotion and passion of the competition. The stem shows the structural aspect of the competition, which is UEFA and European football. In the center of each flower and the ball, is a figure of a person that has its arms up representing joy and the excitement of the competition. Nature has also inspired other features of the logo, with woodland green, sun yellow, aqua blue, sky blue and blackberry purple being the crucial tones of the palette of colors to figure in the official tournament branding.
Why a new Visual identity? The purpose of the logo is to give UEFA EURO 2012™ a distinct personality of its own, and the accompanying visual identity combined with the new logo will be applied across a wide range of promotional applications from tickets to web banners. The objective is to help promote the tournament as one of the world’s biggest sporting events – by providing an easily recognizable identity inspired by the cultural reference of the Wycinanki pattern from both host nations.
Polish Football Association president Grzegorz Lato believes that Poland and Ukraine are ready to surprise the world" after the launch in Kyiv of the "beautiful logo" and slogan for UEFA EURO 2012™. What surprise is he referring to anyway? UEFA EURO 2012™ is the first major football tournament to be awarded to Eastern Europe. "These are two flowers which bloom, I hope that Poland and Ukraine will grow like them." |

I was studying something else about this on another blog. Interesting. Your position on it is diametrically opposed to what I read before. I am still reflecting over the different points of view, but I’m inclined heavily toward yours. And irrespective, that’s what is so superb about contemporary democracy and the marketplace of ideas on-line.
