Issues and dilemmas are part and parcel of the professional life. Being a professional logo designer, you must learn to deal with all kinds of predicaments that you may come across in your career. For those who think that being a logo designer is all fun and no worries, they might want to reconsider. This is because, similar to any other professional, logo designers also face the music in their vocation.

While there are several issues related to different genres in logo designing, some are extremely serious and essential to consider. Right from coping with finicky clients to the miniscule details of the logo design project, designers face a multitude of problems. And it is essential for them to be prepared to tackle all these quandaries. Being a UK logo designer for quite some time now, I have learnt how UK logo designers have to tackle serious and grave concerns in logo designing. So here are some of the most essential issues that must be dealt with

1.	Logo Plagiarism:

This issue is rampant in all spheres of the world, let alone in the UK logo designing. The last thing that a logo designer wants to do is getting caught in a logo plagiarism episode. Two years ago, the UK retail chain WoolWorth’s launched a logo design that was an outrageously identical logo to the famous apple logo. Although the attempt of the designer of Woolworth’s logo was to make a stylized ‘W’ in the form of an apple, it turned out to be copyright violation. The company was forced to change its logo design.

2.	Improper Audience Research:

Another grave mistake that some UK logo designers are guilty of is lack of market research. In order to save time, most logo designers end up making a logo that is not appealing to the intended audience. An existing example of this in the UK logo design market is the London 2012 Olympics logo. The logo was unsuccessful in front of the people of UK because the work was done with improper research of the values and traditions of London or UK.

3.	Overlooking Elements:

As the saying goes, “Too many cooks spoil the broth”. Similar is the case when you employ too excessive elements in a logo design. What is even more frustrating is when the logo designer overlooks the placement of elements. A very popular example of this issue in the UK logo design market is The Office of Government Commerce (OGC). This identity suffered a major blunder of overlooking design elements. The font of the logo was arranged in such a fashion that it gave out an obscene and offensive meaning.

4.	Dilemma of Complex Logos:

It is a proven fact that the human brain accepts simple visual images easier than compound ones. This is the hallmark of all the top brands as they have simple yet unforgettable logo designs. Overdoing a logo design is extremely dangerous in logo designing. You can pick up the example of a UK logo design that was made for the city of Burnley. It was so intricate and complex that it became a complete disaster.

After football, it is the “William & Kate” wedding mania which has overtaken UK. As the date for the majestic event is imminent, UK brands are stepping up to take full advantage of the occasion. While Prince William and his fiancée Kate Middleton will settle for nothing short of the best brands for their wedlock, many UK brands are investing greatly in items that relate to the royal matrimony.

A comprehensive research was conducted by firm Data Monitor on the effects of the Royal Wedding on the UK Economy. It suggests that grand nuptial will boost the U.K. economy by £620 million in the form of tourism, jewelry, bridal clothing and festive food and drink.

Below are a few prominent names from UK brand market which are already benifiting from this royal wedding:

1. QVC sells the replica Engagement Ring:

The first of items to catch brand attention is The Royal Heirloom Ring. It is an 18-carat blue sapphire engagement ring enclosed by a cluster of diamonds and previously worn by Princess Diana in 1981. UK based QVC is selling a replica of the ring to the public for $39.54 that will be worn by Kate Middleton on her wedding.

2. TESCO sells the replica Wedding Dress:

Bridal dresses are in vogue these days in UK as all eyes are on the future princess and her selection of wedding dress. Giant UK retail store Tesco is another brand that is benefiting from the royal nuptial. Tesco is selling a replica of the blue dress worn by Kate at her engagement announcement, made by UK fashion brand Issa London for only £16.

I woke up today with the Valentine’s Day fervor, but then the thought of going to work overwhelmed that mood. Still lamenting my misery of being stuck at work, I opened Google UK for a routine research and voila…there it was! The strangest Valentine’s Day logo design I’ve ever seen! For a minute I thought that I might have entered an incorrect web address, but as I focused more on the logo design, I inferred that it was Google UK’s new logo for the Valentine’s Day.

Google has followed a routine practice of changing logos for occasions. This year on Valentine’s Day, the search engine site decided a logo redesign but only for UK. This is the first time that Google UK has exclusively been given a makeover for 14th February. The new logo may not surprise many, as there is nothing really special about it. . The Pop Art style design comprises of a heart in place of the first ‘o’ in Google.

Brands in UK are considered to be a prestige symbol and consumers in UK are relatively patriotic when choosing brands. Loyal customers remember a brand through its logo design. But which logo designs are more effective in attracting the client attention? Do the brands with signature signs are more impactful? Or do the ones with a trademark symbol leave a memorable impression? Logos fall into three broad categories, namely:

  • Typographic

• Symbolic

• Typographic + Symbolic

• UK Typographic Logos:

Typographic logos only display typefaces. Some famous brands in UK like Harrods and Cadbury have established their very own typeface through their hallmark logos. The biggest benefit of typographic logo design is that the mark is easily identifiable. Moreover, typography logos help customers in remembering the company name. But a drawback is that type only logos can look generic if not designed creatively.

• UK Symbolic Logos:

A symbolic logo design uses a symbol as an abstract representation of a business. A drawback is that without the aid of any text, the logo design can be misinterpreted in different manners. Symbolic logos build a connection with the company name. For example, the Shell logo contains the symbol of a shell denoting the corporation name perfectly.
